Save Komarnica is about people telling stories and inspiring humans to join together and make a protective net for our last natural places of Montenegro, Balkans and Europe.
Since our establishment, every year we have organised protest educative camp on the banks of Komarnica, to make the Komarnica case known to the general public. Apart from educational activities, participants have the opportunity to experience different activities Komarnica offers, such as kayaking, packrafting, biking, hiking, etc.
As a biodiversity hotspot, Komarnica is one of the most valuable areas in Montenegro and Balkans. This canyon serves as a refugium to a number of endemic and relict species living in a diverse mosaic of ecosystems and habitats. Story about Komarnica has become known not only in Montenegro, but on EU level, thanks to summits and different conferences about rivers. Story of Komarnica even made us partners in organising Balkan River Summit in Montenegro that gathered river lovers from all over the Balkans and beyond.
Thanks to the Save the Blue Heart of Europe campaign and our supporters Euronatur and Riverwatch, we had the honor to be one of the local organisers of the first Balkan River Summit. Our story of Komarnica joined with the stories of other rivers of the Balkans.
From engaging with local communities, experts, and CSOs to reaching out to ambassadors and decision-makers at the national and EU levels, we strive to advocate for Komarnica's well-being and emphasize the urgent need to halt the dam(n) hydropower plans.
